Back Home from the Cold

Our final day saw us leaving Lemonthyme Lodge by about 10.00 am and heading across the high country past the turnoff to Cradle Mountain. The further we went, the colder it became. It was snowing constantly and the road was becoming more and more clogged. Eventually, we reached the turnoff to Burnie where it became clear although still very cold. This was a good reminder of just how bleak it can be in the snow.

Snow in the Tasmanian High Country

We had coffee and a snack in Burnie and then a pleasant drive along the north coast of Tassie through Ulverstone & Penguin into Devonport. We had time there for a final look at some shops before dropping Jill off at the airport for her flight home at 5.15pm. I then waited until 7.00 when I joined the queue to check into the boat and catch the overnight ferry home. The seas were from 2 to 3 metres – enough to move the ship around, but still not enough to be seasick.
