Liffey Falls

On Saturday morning I picked Jill up from the airport and after a quick look around Devonport, we had breakfast at McDonalds.

We decided to travel to Launceston through a rather nondescript town called Sheffield. This place is noted for the murals that are painted on the walls of many of the town’s buildings. Otherwise it has very little to offer. It is also famous for being the place where I had the worst meal in my life when I stopped of at the RSL for lunch on a previous trip.

From there we travelled to Deloraine, a town with much more character. On the way we took a detour to see Liffey Falls which are near a world heritage area in the Liffey State Park. There is a well defined track to these much photographed falls through the Myrtle Beech forest, past superb tree fens and logs that ooze moss and lichen.

As we dove on to Launceston, we found ourselves in the bike racing capital of Tasmania when we were caught up behind a number of packs of cyclists racing though various parts of the country. We stopped for the night at a new hotel by the river which was run by the Peppers Organisation.

A Change of Plan
