Vietnam Veterans Day

Today, August 18, is Vietnam Veterans Day. Our local RSL had a service yesterday, but today the official service was at the Shrine. There was quite a crowd although perhaps not as many as last year.

The Vietnam war was the longest war in which Australia has ever been involved, with troops engaged durong seven years from 1965 to 1972. It was also the most socially divisive war in our history. I am proud to have played my little part from 1969 – 1970.

It rained during today’s service; the first time for many a year that we had got wet during a memorial service.
