Sand & Surf
This beautiful broad sweeping beach is on the Western Side of Wilsons Promontory, only about five kilometres from Tidal River. We have camped at Oberon to create a short stopover after a late start from Tidal River, as well as walking through on many trips to the Lighthouse and Waterloo Bay.
Being on the Western Side of the Prom, this beach can be very exposed in bad weather but on a nice day it is a beautiful beach on which to walk. At low tide, the water leaves about 100 metres of bare flat white sand.
At the northern end you need to cross Growlers Creek. The camp site is at the very southern end of the bay where the track heads inland to meet up with the Lighthouse Track. (In the old days, it used to follow a marked route through the sand dunes behind the centre of the beach). The camp ground is a flat and sandy area in the tea tree scrub. There is a good water supply from a nearby stream just to the south of the camp site.
