Christchurch Earthquake

In spite of the sarcasm in some of my previous posts about New Zealand, we actually have a lot of fondness for the country and it’s people. That’s why we have enjoyed so many holidays there.

We were quite stunned to walk around the city of Christchurch on our last visit this January to see the damage to many of the heritage buildings from the earthquake in September 2010. We were then looking forward to the city rebuilding and regaining much of it’s beautiful style.

Having seen the horrific damage on TV from today’s major earthquake, we feel very sad for the people of Christchurch. This latest earthquake is truly devastating and the loss of life is terrible. We would like to extend our sympathies to all those affected by this awful event. We know that people in this city have the strength to eventually rebuild and recover but we know that it will be a long tough job. We will follow your progress with great interest and our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

It is displayed on their website and on printed banners (to be placed in libraries and schools around the […]
