Yesterday was our 53rd Wedding Anniversary.

In our trip plan to FNQ, I deliberately planned for last night to be in Port Macquarie. It was our honeymoon destination in 1972. In those days, overseas travel was not common so most honeymooners like us just went to somehwere domestically that was a bit exotic and Port Maquarie was it.
In those days, the town was just a seaside village with a nice climate and a bit of history from its colonial days of military and prisoners.
The local drama group were then performing a play called ‘Let Sleeping Wives Lie’ – not a very apt message for young honeymooners but Jill keeps reminding me of it.
Last night, we went to one of Port Macquarie’s better restaurants to celebrate. Whalebone Wharf was an up-market seafood restaurant by the Hastings River and although the service started out as being slow, it improved over the night and we enjoyed our meal of oysters, barramundi and chowder.

When we returned to Melbourne after our honeymoon, we moved into our newly built home straight away. I carried Jil over the threshold but I am sure that I could not do that again after we return from this trip.

We have some very happy memories of our lives together over the last 53 years.
Congratulations! How like you, Bruce to time the tour so you reach Port Mac on the correct day! Nice one. T.
Congratulations Bruce & Jill.
Enjoy your time & safe travels.
Congrats Jill and Bruce. How romantic and nostalgic to return to your honeymoon destination.
