Our 54th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

August 14 was our 54th wedding anniversary and we celebrated with a night away and dinner at the RACV Torquay Resort. We had a very pleasant evening with a nice meal and good wine.

On your way home, we made a planned list to the Geelong Art Gallery which had an exhibition of 70 early impressionist works. The exhibition revolves around the visionary role of art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel and how he shaped, nurtured, and championed the Impressionist movement.

Paul Durand-Ruel (1831 – 1922) was a French art dealer. He was the first to support artists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. He is known for his innovations in modernizing art markets, and is generally consdered to be the most important art dealer of the 19th century. An ambitious entrepreneur, he cultivated international interest in French artists by establishing art galleries and exhibitions in London, New York, Berlin, Brussels, among other places.

The exhibition shows Impressionism by showing iconic first-generation Impressionists alongside second-generation painters who built upon their legacy (including Albert André, Georges d’Espagnat, Gustave Loiseau, Maxime Maufra, and Henry Moret).

It featuring over 70 works drawn predominantly from private collections in France, and examines how artists captured light, color, and modern life of yhe time through shared techniques while maintaining distinct individual styles.

Some of the works that struck me were these ones:.

  4. Belated congratulations on 54 wonderful years Bruce and Jill. Certainly they haven’t all been plain sailing, but you’ve come through them like “troopers”. Well done, and thanks for your friendship.
