We have always gone to church on both Good Friday and Easter Sunday of each year. These two days remember the focal point of Christian life – firstly the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and then, on Easter Day, celebrating his resurrection which leads to the forgiveness of our sins and offers us eternal life.
This is a lot more significant than the TV news coverage of the day that just show kids hunting for Easter eggs and families eating out in restaurants or having picnics, as if these were the reason and purpose of this celebration.
Our church has a tradition of people bringing a flower from their garden to place on the cross at the beginning of the Easter day service. Jill has just placed two of our roses on the cross and, along with the contribution of the whole congregation, it makes a very beautiful display indeed.
